How to Check the Spool for Wear

Wear occurs in the places where the o-rings ride.

Normal diameter is .735 inches. The worn spool measures .715 inches. That’s about as bad as they get, and that’s enough to stop the pump from reciprocating, because the spool controls the flow of water in the pump, and wear allows too much water to slip by the o-rings. The water leakage will probably cause whining or groaning noises, too.  If the wear is more than the thickness of an index card, it’s time to replace the spool.
