INTRODUCTION:

The Shurflo 9300 "LCG-GO" pump controller, HLPS Part # 75-5823 is a type of DC power converter known as a Linear Current Booster, or LCB. It is designed as an interface between a DC (Solar) - Pump such as the Shurflo 9300 Solar Well Pump, and a DC power source, like solar panels or wind generators. The main functions of this controller are to maximise the daily water output and provide protection for the pump. This solid state controller will protect the pump system and give trouble free service for many years.

CURRENT BOOSTING FEATURE OF THE CONTROLLER:

For use on solar panel direct systems, the Linear Current Booster Pump Controller is set to keep the voltage constant around the maximum power point of the panels. In essence, the LCB acts like a sort of DC transformer, boosting the current available to the pump during low light conditions. The purpose of the matching is to maximise the daily water output of the solar pumping system. The LCB Pump Controller enables the pump to start earlier in the day when the sun is weaker, and keep pumping later in the day as solar energy wanes.

PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE CONTROLLER FOR YOUR SOLAR WELL PUMP:

When the pump is directly connected to the solar panels, (Array Direct), it will protect the pump from over voltage and over current conditions.

TYPES OF PUMPS WHICH ARE COMPATIBLE:

Any solar well pump rated for 24VDC and using less than 5 amps. Not suited for 12V pumps.

INSTALLATION:

  1. Mount the Linear Current Booster using two screws. If you think the ambient temperature might sometimes 100 F, mount the LCB on a metal surface.
  2. Connect the solar panel cables to the LCB, but be sure to cover the solar panels with a blanket first, so they aren't generating electricity when you make the connections.
  3. Connect the solar pump cables to the LCB.
  4. If you want to ground your system, don't ground any of the cables or Linear Current Booster terminals. Only connect your ground wire to the metal case of the LCB. Don't connect it anywhere else. Grounding is optional for remote systems. Many homeowners prefer a "floating", non-grounded system for these types of low-voltage systems.

WIRING:

  • The Remote Float Switch ON/OFF circuit is used to turn your solar well pump on and off from a remote location, such as a float switch in a tank. If you don't want to use a float switch, that is, you want the pump to run all the time when the sun shines, make sure the float switch terminals are connected with a wire. For this application, if you install a float switch, you need a "Reverse Action" float switch, that breaks the connection when the tank is full.
  • - PV is for the Negative wire from the PV Array. Use a Black wire for this
  • + PV is for the Positive wire from the PV Array. Use a Red wire for this.
  • - PUMP is for the Negative wire from the pump. Use a Black wire for this.
  • + PUMP is for the Positive wire from the pump. Use a Red wire for this.
  • Use minimum 10 gauge wires for the solar panel and the solar well pump connections. The best gauge to use depends on how far the solar panels and pump are from the controller. See the Wire Gauge Calculator for details.
  • Use minimum 18 gauge wires for the float switch connections. You can run several hundred feet of two conductor wire to your tank if you need to. You can use inexpensive indoor telephone wire if you protect it by running it through 1/2 inch black poly pipe.

IMPORTANT: You can fry the controller in less than a second if you reverse the solar panel connections. Make sure you know which is positive and which is negative coming from your solar panels.

INSTALL IN A DRY LOCATION. The controller is not waterproof and must be protected from rain and condensation.

DO NOT INSTALL THE CONTROLLER IN A PLACE WHERE IT RECEIVES DIRECT SUNLIGHT. It might overheat.

THE 902-100 CONTROLLER does not provide terminals for well water level sensors. See the 902-200 controller.
